Most Filipinos and Asians cannot live without rice. It’s our staple, it’s in our genetics (literally, as wheat is to Italians) and it’s in our culture. But our ancestors did a lot of physical work to compensate for the amount of rice they ate, so diabetes wasn’t a huge deal then.
Today, especially with us being stuck in the house, it’s difficult to restrain the urge to eat more rice especially if the ulam (viand) is so sinfully scrumptious. This leaves us feeling guilty and in food coma. But there could finally be a solution for that—aside from brown rice.
Our family has been adding Alchemy Fiber for Rice when doing our sinaing, and I’m beginning to believe its promise since I no longer feel sleepy after meals. It’s difficult for me to skip rice, though, because I rarely have time for snacks and I have hyperacidity, thus bawal malipasan.
Alchemy Fiber has inulin, a prebiotic fiber that helps digestion and slows the release of sugar into the blood. I may have to ask where Alchemy Foods, the Singaporean company behind this innovative product, derives the inulin powder because there’s a lot of plant sources for it, like chicory root.
According to the company, Alchemy Fiber is “a plant-based blend, when added with rice, increases the fiber content in white rice by 10x while boosting prebiotics and lowering the glycemic index (GI) —giving rice a wealth of health benefits.” Imagine how you can finally eat more than half a cup of rice per day—but, of course, you shouldn’t overdo it.
Alan Phua, a co-founder of Alchemy Foods, said the product was born out of his family’s problem with diabetes.
“I’ve seen the struggle of my family members and I felt like I could do something, that was when my partner Verleen and I began our study,” he said.
“We created this product to help not just our loved ones, but everyone that struggles with their health and lifestyle as well. We believe food should be savored without the need to worry, and Alchemy Fiber for Rice has just made this possible.”
Add it to your favorite rice recipe—like an umami sushi bake with Wagyu beef cubes—and enjoy the taste of white rice without feeling guilty, anxious, or just sleepy. Perhaps we can also add it to other carbohydrate-filled baked goodies and beverages!
Alchemy Fiber for Rice is located at GF Robinsons Magnolia, beside UCC. It is also available on Shopee, through this link http://bitly.ws/dHLc.
